This is normal practice, they charge various prices to capture all sections of the market.

I only buy new gear when it is half price or less normally, some people are the opposite and pay a much higher price for the latest and greatest.

The number of "fake" sales by retailers with the up to 70% off nonsense is getting out of hand.

I need to buy a sofa but I will wait for the 90% off sale. Wait... They are ALWAYS on sale!

If they have a crap pad then they are worth fark all no matter what discount is offered .

£30 is fine for me, I use them on my commute.

However, for a ride of longer than a couple of hours, the pad isn't up to scratch, so I'm glad I didn't pay more.

We don't all have the same arse. I was ok doing distances up to 200km in Endura liner shorts - which by most reckoning have a crap pad.

And now I think of it, £30 is pretty sweet for thermal bibs even without the pad. If it's not up to your standards, you could try putting a pair of your favourite shorts under it.

Aren't they supposed to state the period during which the higher price was being charged?
Yes, twenty eight days I think, but they may not have to state it.

Shock news just in! Big business uses hoodwinkery to sell more stuff. Use this energy to worry about something else more important.
I agree but this sort of thing is misleading at best and could be Contrary to the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. If something is reduced in a sale it must state the previous price.

This 'sale' was on when I first rode up that way in 1990 and has been running ever since!

I agree. £30 good price But. Why the need to put up from 48 to 69 Would still have been a good deal from 48.

We are on almost on same page.
Does it really matter what they say as long as what they are selling is deemed to be a good price?

They can lie to me as much as they want as long as I am getting a bargain. How big that bargain is, theoretically, is not important.

I think it’s a little bit naughty tbh, but then they exist to make a profit, I understand that but too.

My only complaint is that they keep pestering with their deals, which turn out to be everyday pricing across other retailers. Again, I understand why, and it’s my own point for signing up to the newsletters really.

Time for an “Unsubscribe” session, like I did last January.

Yes it does matter.

Or maybe I am unusual in not wanting to be lied to by retailers.

British supermarkets have long been specialists at this sort of thing but are sometimes so clever they catch themselves out by leaving both prices in place. A couple of times I have even had to call the manager and insist that they remove said products with lying label. Taking the P. I now largely avoid the big supermarkets with their fake offers.

One big scam is practiced by the furniture retailers - they will have a piece for sale at the back for, say £1000 for a few days then move it to the front and offer it as reduced to £500. They are allowed to do this as long as the item has previously been displayed at the higher price. Mrs Gti used to be a retail manager so she knows a few of their tricks.

I think that is called advertising.

I wouldnt buy something just because I was being told it is being sold as 60% off. You need to do a bit of research to find out if it really is a bargain.

If it was £48 a month ago and was good value and is now £30. Thats a bargain. If you are actually looking to buy one. Maybe they are allowed to use the highest price it was being sold at within that fiscal year.

But retailers lie. Just look at what some of the christmas toys are supposed to do according to the TV. What they do in reality is totally different.
