Apparently they really didn't know why they weren't selling in Spain. When they found out they changed the name to Corsa. Which to me was OK on the continent where it sounds like and race track, but in the UK I thought, 'Courser than a Nova?? No thanks!

I always thought this was about he Chevrolet Nova not selling in the Mexican market
Not true about either, as Spanish-speakers would tell you it wouldn't be what you'd say in relevant situations, as mentioned in https://www.snopes.com/business/misxlate/nova.asp

Doubly wrong for the Vauxhall Nova because it was built in Spain and so, unsurprisingly, launched as the Opel Corsa about six months before its April 1983 UK launch - although there's a similar urban legend that the Corsa was renamed for the UK because of the Coarser/Corsair connotations.

At one time there was a tendency for car manufacturers to name their cars after pornographic publications:
Ford Escort, Ford Fiesta, Mini Mayfair ...

Not to forget the Hillman Minx
This is clearly a different publication to the Minnie the Minx that I remember!

And it's continued with the Suzuki Hustler

Ah, the VRs - A Golf made slower...

I think Weshie was referring to the contemporaries of the Rapid. The only time air cooled Slodas were rapid was when the breakdown truck overtook some one, or when pushed off a cliff.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

My dad had one . A bit like the old joke, ' how do you double the value of a Skoda? Fill it with petrol '.
