Never understood the type of people who buy fake goods.
Buy what you can justify spending, if something is out of your price range then look for something cheaper.
Is it an image thing?

almost certainly.
the irony is that someone buying a fake whatever could quite likely have got a decent item from a less revered brand for rather less than they paid.

Very true. What does a fake Rolex cost ? £2-300? You could buy a very nice Orient watch, also mechanical movement for same or less, a good quality Japanese made watch.
On the other hand you wouldn't be able to join in with that guy on YouTube with hideous tattoos and neon white teeth veneers who pontificates about Rolex. He was mugged and beaten for his timepiece not long ago so you wouldn't get that happening to you either.

It's a fake but not a bad watch IMO

I don't see the fascination of watches, especially those garish 'diveresque' ones, I understand the skill of the maker when they are mechanical, but not digital.

I suppose the real test will happen if he has a crash or hits a big pothole. Even the big bike companys get it wrong, know a few people who have had bb and headset problems. Watches I have a 5$ Swiss watch for touring bought it in a bazaar 😁

Chinese companies are selling their carbon bike frame and wheels using their own brand/names. You can see that in forums and YouTube.

They have provided frames and wheels for Hambini to review on build and finish and they seem to receive good reviews. People have bought it have given favourable reviews.

Its not something the older generation will accept despite most the high end branded bikes starting life in China for the last 20 years.

When the blind driver knocked me of my Cannondale, the carbon forks snapped in half, I replaced them with some Chinese one's, these did the job just as well and were still on the bike when I sold it.

I know a few people with DH gate carbon wheels which go well. They’ve never had problems & use them as winter wheels. I’ve just bought some Hunt 4 seasons which are super robust but slower than loads of cheaper wheels.

Fake goods are often linked to criminality besides being unsafe and prone to failure.

It can be hard to avoid fakes. I bought a Nikon camera and needed a spare battery for it. Couldn't get one from a camera shop so I bought one online, cheaper than Nikon's but figured it would be okay. Then found my charger wouldn't charge it. This meant that I would have to buy the charger for the cheaper battery, so I returned the battery. Nikon refused to deal with cameras that caught fire because of the batteries. They put a chip in their batteries and chargers so that the charger would only charge an official battery.

It would be great if something could be done with fake bikes to identify them. Perhaps a chip implant in the genuine bike that a bike shop could identify. But then at that point you've already bought the bike. Still, you'd know if it was fake.

At the beginning of the century I used to work for a large computer components company, one of the products was memory, it was almost like trading on the stock market with the volatility of prices, we once bought a substantial amount in direct from Samsung (I think it was) their own branded memory, direct from their UK warehouse, when it arrived it was fake.
