Quite dreadful
Yes @Flying_Monkey, Downfall was incredibly good, one of the very best. The Conversation was very much of its time and US paranoia. A very bleak film. It hasn't travelled very well, any more than The Eiger Sanction actually IMHO, not that there's a direct comparison.

I had Downfall on my list too, don't know how it slipped off. May be because I got sidetracked thinking about the spoofs. Even made one myself once upon a time, complete with trailer

Should probably also add The Exorcist. Even reading about the deleted spiderwalk still has the power to creep me out.

Italian job...of course.

Possibly Crash, very powerful especially the magic cloak scene with the locksmith and his little girl...edge of the seat stuff

Good call on 'The Great Beauty'.

A beautifully crafted, nuanced and subtle work. A labour of love obviously and so a true peice of art. It has a gentle but undeniable sense of humour, but with an air of sadness. There's a balance that all 'feel good' movies should aim to achieve.

Excellent list. Grave of the Fireflies is an absolute cracker. I didn't prepare MrsRM for how emotionally devastating it is, I don't think she'll ever forgive me.

Since the top two restriction seems to have been lifted, these are a few more of mine:

Idi i Smotri
The Wrestler
Vampires
Requiem for a Dream
Assault on Precinct 13
Night of the Living Dead
Crash (the David Cronenburg one)
Man Bites Dog
Orgasmo
The Hills Have Eyes
Blade
Kingpin
Sprski Film
Nosferatu

That's divisible by two I reckon.

When you start seeing things like "Sprski Film" it's surely time to firmly re-impose the top two restriction...
