Bugger. After last night's viewing I have to chuck one out to make room for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Very difficult, but I think Alien has to go, because tour de force of terror and design that it is, Alien 3 is almost as sinister but has much more depth.

So the revised list is:

1. Mulholland Drive
2. The Big Lebowski
3. Fargo
4. Apocalypse Now (original version)
5. Utu
6. Alien 3
7. Last of the Mohicans
8. 2001
9. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
10. Ghost World

You like Dune more than Mulholland Drive, the best film ever made?

Dune looks to me as though either the money ran out, or it was cut to ribbons...

There is a much longer cut available...I know it's not rational to like it as much as I do...but I do. Not as much as Twin Peaks, though!

Mulholland drive was fascinating...but indecipherable and I ended up a bit disgruntled.

I would apply the test of 'If it were on TV now would I watch it' and come up with..

The Blues Brothers
There's something about Mary
Austin Powers (First one with Liz in)
The Mask
Ghostbusters
East of Ipswich (obscure gem written by Michael Palin in mid 80s)
Gregory's Girl
Four Weddings
Battle of Britain
In and Out

Struggling at that point but I am sure there are ten.

Problem I have is I am bored by war films (BOB above is one exception as it does not have a "we gotta rescue him" moment.
Westerns are done to death as are cop films, sci fi and Bond.
I prefer uk comedy to american but in films the UK ones often fall short whereas the americans tend to work on it until it has a good line every minute or two.
Also it does help if you fancy the leading lady.

Oh yes Life of Brian and Notting hill

How come no-one's mentioned The Sound of Music?

"The heeeeeeeels are aliiiiiiiiive with the sound of myooooooosic!"

...and that bit where the entire family leaps over the barbed wire on the motorbike - magic!
