No insurance, not the registered keeper and no VED.... I'd seriously recommend removing that video and deleting this thread Matthew... before someone takes a formal official interest.

I hope nobody from the bus company sees this thread.

The Costa Clyde rain magnet.
The kid just wheeled his motorbike to a carpark for a sneaky go, give him a break.

Well, yes .... and no!
It turns out that he might be the proud owner of a bike from a dodgy source (as in, why hasn't the V5 appeared yet?).
He hasn't exactly committed the crime of the century in wheeling the bike down to have a wee ride in a car park, but if he had been spotted by a keen young cop having a bad day, it could have opened a can of worms which could have seen Matthew with enough penalty points to possibly cost him his newly acquired car driving licence, and a re-test after the ban. Not to mention even more stupidly expensive insurance when the time came for him to be allowed to drive again.
I don't think anyone on this thread has given him a hard time, just some sound advice for his own good .

Just to get the record straight Matthew. You are allowed to ride a 125 motorbike with a full car drivers licence so long as you put "L" plates on it and have done your CBT. Your full licence acts as a provisional for your bike and the CBT is only valid for 2 years. Of course, the bike needs to be insured too. CBT cost about £100.

Well done. Having viewed the video of yourself riding round a carpark with other cars and pedestrians in, I suspect you could have racked up enough points to disqualify yourself before you've even used your license.

I applaud your stupidity, maybe hand your video into the local police station. I'm sure those lazy jobsworths will see the funny side of it.

Frustrated wannabee copper by any chance ?

It sounds to me as if you want to keep this thing.

But be careful riding without insurance... You may think you can't possibly hurt anyone, but you can never know what mechanical failure might befall you (throttle sticking) or who might leap out in front of you.

30mph is pretty fast for a car park even if it's Tesco-sized. 45mph seems disturbingly incautious (or perhaps fictional).

It's good to hear that you like it, but unless that car park is on private land and surrounded by guard towers and electric fencing, I'd give the joyriding a miss. It is not legal. You are keen to point out where others transgress; ignorance is no excuse in this case, particularly in one who carries a copy of the HC in his pocket. You do not have your own, special set of rules.

I write as one who was banned for riding on the highway underage, so there's no moral high horse here. But if you cause any damage, you will be in a world of pain.
He's already said he walked the bike there. And that the car park is on private land......so how does this qualify as 'joyriding'?

Found the video - a good five minutes of incriminating evidence there.

The car park is at Ffrith beach, which is a mile or so from Prestatyn. It's not private ground - yes it may be owned privately, but the land has public access. For you to be on private ground, the land must not have public access and you must also have permission of the land owner. If the police caught you you would be in trouble.

Get the bike legally registered, get it SORNed and don't ride it. For someone who goes round filming nasty drivers and reporting people, you've got to be beyond reproach. In this case you've proved not !

I saw cars parked near the buildings - that car park will have children in it as there are leisure facilities there. At one point I did see a pedestrian in close proximity, but I assume thats a friend of yours.

Stupid thing to do, and you even filmed it. :headshake:

It's a bit like my niece who filmed her and her boyfriend doing a ton down a road. She said it was 'private land' - I said it won't be, and really shook her up by saying 'the biggest killer of young women in cars is their boyfriend's driving'. Lets say the shock tactic worked.
