Hope that's sorted soon @nickyboy.

In other news, the C2C route is pretty badly damaged near Keswick

Very sad to see that. I can't help thinking with all the other serious damage done (and probably more that hasn't yet been discovered) that this won't be high on the priority list for replacement.

It's only a permissive route, so they'll be some discussion on who's gonna pay for it (if at all). But there's a fair stack of legal duty stuff to fix before that even gets consideration

Yes, that was pretty much what I was thinking. That is only one of several bridges on the route - I wonder what condition the others are in? This could be the end for that path.

I did hear tell of another bridge gone on that route, but there's so much understandable confusion at the mo we don't know if it's correct ot not.

Here's a few vids taken on the A591 Keswick to Grasmere road, which pretty much sum up the ferocity of the storm.

Wow! I'd already seen a photo of the washed out road but it looks even worse close up and those landslides are pretty epic too. No chance of a quick patch-up there then.

I live in Whitehaven on the coast, West Cumbria. I was surprised that the town center wasn't flooded though, must've been something to do with the size of tide. I did pick my daughter up from her grandma's at Derwent Gardens, Cockermouth just before they evacuated. It was strange driving out of the place, as within me being at the house for about 15 mins, the hill going out of Cockermouth up to the A595 had been filled with loads of lorries and cranes from Lawson's haulage yard, all the way up the hill. Obviously a good move, as they'd of been junk if left. The house was under at least 2 feet of water though the night and is in a real mess. A close friend also said his house was under 8 feet of water, he lives off Warwick Road in Carlisle. I've no doubt a lot of workmates will have been flooded too as I work close to Carlisle.

I've read numerous comments on Farcebook critising the government for poor work on improving the flood defenses as both places have flooded in the recent past (at different times). After seeing the River Derwent late on Saturday, that to be honest looked like the Amazon, I'm not sure that improved flood defenses can stop such a powerful natural phenomena as that, and I'd guess it has a lot to do with the size of the tide in the Solway The Derwent wasn't dredged though, following the last flood, whether this would of helped I don't know. Hopefully I'm wrong though, as its a horrible thing, that is happening too often.

My work is a real mess now, trees, parts of sheds, hay bales and even a live cow have been spotted on the golf course today. That along with the thousands of square metres of thick mud coating the fairways.

But compared to someone's house being flooded I know which I'd take.

I feel for those who have been affected, sounds like you got things done just in time.
My feeling is the flood defences have stopped it being even worse. Imagine if they given way earlier or weren't the height they are. Water would've been pouring in for a lot longer I feel.

I wonder if the flood barriers may at least have helped to hold back some of the debris that would have been swept along with the water. (Obviously not cow-proof!).
And they will also have given people more time to evacuate/move stuff upstairs etc.
