trains are via Rainham, unless you want to go from Southend Victoria, in which case you can go via Romford. There will be no trains via Basildon, but, with seven an hour we'll be fine.

Andy is on the list, and Ian, thankyou for your message.

Metcheck is defunct. Accuweather has cloudy, warm, dry, following wind. The cat is predicting a plague of fleas, and vomit on the carpet. We're not on speaking terms. And may I say that almost all of our rides have had following winds, whether we have travelled south or west. And rain has been very much the exception. And for this I had to pass on a snog with Helen of Troy.

Victoria Line. Half mile /short walk from the sea front through the delights of Southend town centre to the Liverpool Street line starting at Southend Victoria.

Southend Central/Leigh/Chalkwell to Fenchurch Street and, yes, Southend Victoria to Liverpool Street. The Victoria ones will be quicker, but I think they'll be more expensive.

what times your train back?
i take it quite late so enough time to ride all the way back to london not just stanford le hope:biggrin:

Hmmmm, yes, not quite. Due to the plan been to have a "guest" with me, I have opted for an earlier London departure:-

Kings Cross - 13:48

Based on past experience's this could prove problematic in riding all the way back from Southend into Central London, hence I have formulated a cunning plan...

I will set off riding from Southend but this time ensure I know what station and what trains are running based on how well the ride back is going.

For example:-
All going very well, maybe train from Ilford or closer
All not going very well, train from Leigh-on-Sea

So you can see how the plan works and what could possibly go wrong with such a well executed plan.

"FAIL TO PLAN, PLAN TO FAIL" as someone once said.

I am also feeling pretty good on the old bike at the moment so another ride home can't be ruled out...

I hope this answers your question, I've kept it as brief as possible as people like Mac get bored of listening to be banging on, and on, and on, and so on..

Does your train stop at Stevenage? I'll be riding back that way if you want to come along.

Unfortunately not. Kings Cross 13:48, next stop Grantham 14:47. The Kings Cross option is definitely the more appealing, not that I've got anything against Grantham...

The Rainham train crosses the route at Chalkwell, Pitsea, Stanford-le-Hope and (almost) Grays, Purfleet and Rainham.

Perhaps we can take in a game of "London Lottery" at The Rose??

Everyone has a guess at how far I can get towards central London before opting to catch a train??

This is a game that can only end in tears.................;)

For me, it's the same price for any of the Southend stations (£29.85 return fare with Network Railcard- cheaper than the two singles). Fenchchurch Street and Liverpool Street aren't much different in terms of getting back to Waterloo (time almost identical on TfL journey planner) so I'll go from Victoria.

Well if you get as far as Romford and have enough time you can always stop for a cuppa at mine although you may have to put up with Joe using you as target practice as we bought him a gun [not real of course] for his b/day.
Last time we did the southend I think I got home about midday but that did involve the usual mouseketeer adventure of getting lost:biggrin:

Rain forecast now from the Met Office

But I've polished my bike and everything.

Not sure if Simon has mentioned this directly, but the C2C Southend to Fenchurch Street Line has engineering works between Barking and Pitsea (on the main artery) on Saturday. This means if you bail out at Basildon on the way home for example, you can't. So Mike e might want to consider following the Victoria line. But I suspect he (and others) will get far enough to use the usable stations at Grays, Rainham, Barking, etc. especially with Sig pushing him along.
