If it helps I can promise not to eat anything at TT's stop, and can dawdle at the back with the best of them, and fix stuff.

I can see where turning people away hurts.

Yebbut, where I'm sitting leads me to believe we could be at 120....

In time the ride might get bigger. I've still to sort out a website, and press coverage. If it gets bigger it will change, and that bears thinking about. But for now I think that we have to increase bit by bit. I also think the present model may be pretty much at capacity - this month's ride may be instructive. There will be a pretty straightforward e-mail going out this evening highlighting the need for caution on Reigate Hill, and for bikes to be thoroughly checked over. The 're-grouping bunch' model depends on there being a limited number of punctures and mechanicals and people behaving themselves. particularly on descents. It places constraints on the routes - the Brighton route is, if I say so myself, a masterpiece of simplicity, but getting 100 riders out through Aldgate en route to Southend might be interesting, and steering 100 riders round the outskirts and south of Horsham en route to Bognor with, perhaps, three of us knowing the way, will be a real laugh.

I really don't want to go to route sheets. I really enjoy the camaderie of the format we have now. I like the idea of the slowest riders sitting down to breakfast with the fastest riders. It's all a question of what's possible.

Were starting to knock on the door of Pro Tour numbers, will the TV helicopters be flying at night or do we rely just on the motorbikes. My Mavic wheel support car will assist other riders for a small fee!!!

Wow! That is some number dellzeqq. I hope there are some cameras out to capture the big attendance.

Is L2B the most popular FNRttC? I think the parallel to the daytime event probably draws more people (I include myself here).

what some of the supposedly sharper knives in the block haven't spotted is that our house photographer is there....

All the destinations are as popular as one another, although we did put people off the Whitstable ride, and, a long time ago, the Bracklesham ride, because they were a bit tougher. The numbers have been going up and up since it started with four on the first ride. The largest crowd we had in 2006 was 27, in 2007 was 46, and in 2008 was 69 (the ill-fated Shoreham ride). This year (42, 58, ?) I've turned people away for each of the rides.

Having big numbers is not all bad. I was pretty nervous about going on the A3 with 21. The year after I had no problem with 69 - indeed I was at the back looking at a blaze of light a quarter of a mile long, thinking 'wtf have I done?', and then thinking 'this is brilliant!'. And, while I'm sure, Will, that you'll be amongst the fastest of us, don't underestimate the charms of being at the back, particularly on the Whitstable ride toward the end of the year. Seeing that line of lights snaking away over the next hill is something special.

Haha thanks - I have to say, sitting behind a hundred sets of flashing rear LEDs on the Dynamo last year was one of the most beautiful things I have seen on a bike, so I'll certainly sit near the back at the beginning.

Hey, don't knock it. There were some lovely roads on that ride. Yes, shame about the pub, but the overall experience was one I'd have been sorry to have missed.

What happened at the pub?
I have visions of a bar-room brawl: Cyclists Vs Roller-Skaters or something

No contest. Cyclists have D-locks: skaters don't usually carry anything heavier than a 4mm allen key
