What happened at the pub?
I have visions of a bar-room brawl: Cyclists Vs Roller-Skaters or something

No - despite the pub knowing the numbers and having phone calls confirming the exact time we'd turn up, they just weren't able to come up with food & drinks properly. I think some people were still waiting nearly 2 hours later.

Fit it boy!
I wondered where you had gone my friend...I thought you might be stuck on the toilet with Chris Sidwell's book of the bike for a moment!

What do you think this is, Ancient Rome?

Well actually I was a bit disappointed because I had imagined that the cat's forecasts were based on an intensive analysis of mouse entrails.

The performance of the pub at Shoreham last year was disappointing and I vaguely remember having to wait rather a long time for a veggie breakfast to appear. However that memory had to be jogged and it certainly did not spoil the ride for me, which was a lot of fun.

Nor was their credit card machine working, nor were they even open when we arrived there.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I still owe someone for breakfast from that run. Anyone want to claim?

and steering 100 riders round the outskirts and south of Horsham en route to Bognor with, perhaps, three of us knowing the way, will be a real laugh.

make that four knowing the way, I'm Horsham born and bred, and have family in Bognor so cycle that route regularly. Your email made me smile; no mudguards - you're made of sterner stuff than me and racks; I've just torqued down and loctited every screw on my bike so I ain't taking my rack off.

As for food and TEC's I'm with Hatler's proposition except I won't be dawdling at the back I'll be going flat out at the back.

Somehow I don't think we're going to have 100 going to Bognor (though however many there are, I am planning to be one of them)- it's going to be over 70 miles, that will probably put a few off. GG, good to know there's someone else who knows the way.

As owner of 'anything other' (my wheels for the night will be 406- the Cadenza is 26", but the rear's seen better days, it's running fine but I won't chance it) I will have a spare tube, and as I have a spare tyre (folded in the box) I'll bring that as well. I think some of the recumbent owners run the same size, so might be helpful. The tyres were fresh on for 'the English summer' on Monday. My mudguards are fine as they are, honest (very well mounted).

Sol gets in by virtue of having the most impeccable reference....(excuse the inconsistency, but I know that Dan has been drumming up interest from the speedskaters for months. I just hope that they don't all travel along in a string with one hand behind their backs....)

Thank you!
I promise to bring you some of my brownies!
And NOT cycle with my hand anywhere near my back!;)

from my FNRTTC to Southend experience, I'll be somewhere near the front pissing and moaning about 'stalling' and 'getting off and walking'

a cancellation prompted by my e-mail (I'd expected more) which will free up a space tomorrow.

the numbers this summer will depend on the weather and on publicity - the Guardian article still accounts for about 30% of all our riders. I'm surprised, by the way, that nobody's spotted....

95 (including me) with 9 'reserves'.

Anybody cycling back? I might go as far as Crawley or Reigate to hit the imperial century. I'm more interested in how long that will take to work out what time I need to book the train from Euston.

Would it be sensible to go for 1500 @ Euston including some leeway?

Brighton to Crawley (Three Bridges for the station) is about 25 miles. I've no idea what the Btn ETA is though!
