hi - does anyone have an idea of how long the spokes on a Focus Racer should last for (with reasonable use)? thanks

From 1 day up to the end of the bikes life.

I know it is not what you where wishing to hear but it does change all depending on how you ride, how long you ride for, what the roads are like, how often the bike has a service....

I've never broken a spoke in my life. I weigh 135 lbs in winter; 130 "in season." Working in the trade, I saw many broken spokes, in this order:

  1. Big folks' bikes and heavily-loaded touring rigs.
  2. Anodized (black) spokes
  3. Aluminium alloy (rather than stainless), "aero" spokes, etc.
  4. MTBs

Otherwise, they should last longer than the rim.

Cheap machine built wheels will pop spokes. Decent machined wheels - no popping spokes.

Hand built wheels - I've never had any go in 23 years. Popped about 6-8 on my MTB's cheap commuters wheels....
