Saudi Arabia had a penalty saved by El Hadari. The Egyptian goalie is the oldest player ever to play in a world cup match.

The sending off rather took the edge off Russia's game, more than the goals did. Uruguay haven't played brilliantly, but they've taken the chances that have fallen to them.

Belated trivia fact of the day.

Uruguay won the first ever World Cup in 1930 (as everyone, I'm sure, knows) beating Argentina 4-2 in Montevideo.

What is not so well-known (maybe) is that because of a dispute, a different ball was used in each half, one chosen by each team. Argentina's ball was used for the first half, and Uruguay's ball was used for the second half.

Funnily enough Argentina were leading 2-1 at half time. Obviously the Uruguayan ball was superior.

And with 10 men, how long can they keep this up. Wouldn't put it past Uruguay to grab a few more goals.

Russia did well to arrange their opening fixture against the worst side in the competition and at least make themselves look good for a short while.

I can't see either them or Uruguay troubling the latter stages.
