How are the group match permutations determined?

You've got sort of seedings 1,2,3,4 in the groups. Where the fixtures work out with 1v2 in the last game there seems to be a greater chance of the group already being decided (as in England's group), which leads to a boring final round of matches

Would be better to have 1v2 as first round, much better chance of competitive third round matches

You mean that obscure sport thats put behind an obscure pay channel in a tucked away obscure cupboard of Sky and / or Eurosport and then only as a highlight show?

Now if only there was somewhere more mainstream I could find out about this strange World Cup thing going on.

Don't know about UK football viewing schedules but all matches in Norway are shown on terrestrial channels.

Which, if any, won't manage it?

FWIW, here's my list in order of "least likely to proceed", least likely first

Argentina
Germany
Brasil
Spain

I think at least one, probably two of the above will go out

Nice bright start to Iran v Portugal. It's got that cup tie atmosphere.

The Iranian keeper has already flapped at a couple of crosses. He's not looking terribly confident there.
