I used to work on them quite a lot, would I want to own one? no thanks they are useless rubbish. My wife says, and she has driven them that she would never want to do so again.

But i do like the look of them! Maybe i could buy one and not run it much, in case it breaks down? I could have it parked outside and just sit in it.

You could do that at a Dealer's forecourt
What everyday for an hour or so? Mmm, i think they'd tell me to feck off after i'd done it a few times. Anyway. I might phone Wayne up and ask how he liked his. Does anyone have his number?

The one i had a go in on Friday is still there and at the same price. Infact it's more than i thought. It's £1895 not £1850. The dealer told me to buy it ASAP,as "these cars sell themselves". That's an Arthur Daily line if i ever heard one!

I don't think its at any greater risk of breaking down than any other £1500ish quid, decade plus old car. By they time they get to that age how they've been maintained and treated is far more relevant than the make or model. Indeed, cars like the SportKak that are ridiculously cheap to maintain are far more likely to have been maintained properly than something bigger, more sophisticated and expensive, as by the time they get to their third or so owner corners start getting cut.

Provided you find one that isn't full of tin worm you've not got a great deal to worry about. Its a Ford parts bin special, with tried and tested engine, transmission, steering and suspenders. A £1500 Polo is liable to be no better. Badge and model snobbery is completely irrelevant at that end of the market, where a history of careful driving and good maintenance outweighs all else.

The "cheap to maintain" is what i like. A few have said that. Also like you said Drago,it's a Ford with tried and tested parts. When i first posted this thread i honestly thought people would say similar things to you. I'm surprised the car's been rubbished so much. I'm still tempted but not the one for £1895. As that advice page said, its way over priced at that. I'm looking at spending around £800. not more than twice that price.

In that case, buy a non-runner for scrap value. You wouldn't even need the engine.
But i couldn't leave it legally parked on the road. Although this place does have its own private car park. Maybe have a scrapper dropped off in one of the limited spaces they seem to fight over? I'm sure that'd go down well!

People seem to have a funny idea that at the back end of the market model X will automatically be a better proposition than model Y, but after a decade plus of use and maintenance (or lack of) its almost utterly irrelevant.

If you can find a StreetKak that isn't lacy and drives OK, then buy it if its what you really want. They're not as bad for rot as then original Endura E engined Kak, so you should have an easier time finding a clean one.

If reliability is key, then go East, Far East. In your position, if I wanted something vaguely sporty, then I'd be off to Mr Suzuki, Swiftly (IYSWIM)

Here's one not a million miles away: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201705305962515?advertising-location=at_cars&price-to=2000&postcode=ox279bn&price-from=500&radius=1500&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&make=SUZUKI&model=SWIFT&sort=price-desc&page=1
Sorry. It has to be nice blue colour (although graphite could be considered) with a soft top!:okay:

Cheap parts, could that be because they sell a lot of them. I work on cars for fun now but for 45 years it was my living. Buy it, what does it matter what they are like if you like it, you never know for once in your years here you might have a bit of luck and get the only good one in existence.

I was confused by your posting the Rooney picture of a hardtop...

OK, at your budget, get an MX5. Proper sportscar-lite. Reliable. Parts cost buttons. Can be fixed with a hammer. Rust is an issue, so get one that's been done already. Masive number to choose from. Big social scene too. Job jobbed.
