On a bike everyone has great visibility of you (in theory) so arm signals work very well. As cars changed from open carriages to enclosed spaces the need grew for indicators.
Maybe an Inspector Gadget-type device on your back that shoots out cantilevered hands to replicate hand signals? You could also have one that flips the finger in the event of a close pass. Think about it, you could give a driver the Mellow Birds coffee shake without ever taking your hands off the handlebars
