If it helps, if I were free I'd be moving heaven and earth to be there.

The thought of a ride out that didn't involve a couple of hours of scrapping through the outskirts of London is divine.

The bit out of London is the most interesting on the Whitstable ride.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Clearly. It's one of the nicer routes out - I do like Greenwich - but the industrial wastelands and dual carriageways of the East are grim.

Apparently so.
only about 50% of any ride are regular CC contributors - and most of those who do contribute join after their first ride.

The routes out of London are ranked thusly

1. The 'old, old' Southend route via Stratford, Ilford and Dagenham East. Sheer loveliness.
2. The new Southend/Burnham route via Rotherhithe and Barking
3. The Brighton route via Mitcham Common and Chipstead
4. The 'old' Southend and Burnham/Southwold route via Stratford and Romford
5. The Whitstable route via Greenwich
6. The Felpham route via Mitcham and Sutton
7. The 'old, old, old' Southend route via Dartford. Despite the view of the bridge from the southern side.

so........the weather looks good, the halftime refreshments are lined up, we're apparently missing out on the bird-eating spider road, we've got a new destination in Y Mwmbwls (look that up in your Welsh English dictionary) and people are hoping we'll have a great ride. Which we will. I'll be hanging around the Millenium Basin from about 10.30. See you there!

As for the finishes - they can be rated thusly

1. Swansea
2. Southwold
3. Felpham
4. Southend
5. Brighton
6. Whitstable
7. Morecambe
8. Hull (but that ride does have the Humber Bridge, and nobody has ever complained about the Tide of Humber).

Swansea Bay is, according to no less an authority than Aldous Huxley, 'more beautiful than the Golfo di Napoli'. And if the excitement occasioned by protruding rocks isn't enough to get you going, there's always the possibility of a chance encounter with Catherine Zeta Jones. (Or Bonnie Tyler)

The possibility of a chance encounter with Joanna Lumley at the gurkha bridge would surely put the Felpham finish at the top of the list, no?

True. Although Colin Charvis is more likely. He does ride a bike.
