style over speed

riding a f**king bike
I have even wondered about buying a faster bike, perhaps even one like Frank's, but I suspect that when I get on it, it will somehow turn out to be the same speed as other bikes I have. Funny, that.

I feared that too, but if you're used to riding a heavy bike the light one will just fly along for the same (or even less) effort, gentle hills will disappear and gear ratios that you'd never use somehow become easy! My light bike is a blast to ride, but I wouldn't want to use it all the time... saw a good quote somewhere along the lines of "train heavy and race light"
my commuter bike easily weighs over 25kg

... I am tempted to bring the bike I used back then. But it only has one gear now. Fine for most of Essex when at my best. Maybe not in the middle of the night when my legs get that 3 in the morning feeling.

The Southend ride is pretty flat though, I did my first FNRttC out that way, using my single speed Pompino, and had no problems as I recall.

I do use Red mostly for FNRttCs. Aside from a small smattering of commutes (I don't like risking leaving him locked up at work!), and I think three other rides, most of my miles on Red have been to the coast, albeit not that many miles this year, because of a hiatus over most of the summer. This has the benefit that since Red is so much lighter than my commuter, it does make the rides really easy, which is always a good thing.^_^

Is there another Martin T? I'm sorry but I'm not on this one. I did put my name down but withdrew pretty quickly when I realised I'd organised my works Xmas do for this day.

That's right you're meeting us at LMNH in the morning.

That might not be that bad an idea actually!! What time will you be back? Please say you won't be wearing your pink shirt though?

1) It is an excellent idea.
2) I'd guess 10:00 - 10:30. Anyone think much different?
3) Seeing as it bothers you so much. OK.

Ok next, and probably last, silly question. They do serve beer at that time don't they?

Is there somewhere in Southend to bury a hatchet?
....yep, in the cafe at the end of the ride - you're buying. I'll have a full English, extra round of toast and a mug of tea.
Only if you buy mine. I'll have coffee though.
