Ok I've got absolutely no idea what to wear now. I'll wing it and see what happens, if I start turning blue someone help!!!

Snow's unlikely. Rain not forecast and it's July.

Okay so it's England but a lightweight blingy montane is worth the insurance. Arm warmers aren't too bulky either and there may be a freshening onshore breeze at the seafront.
It all depends if you're a tough old cookie (Aperitif) or a feeble weed like me!

I'm a northerner by birth so I'll probably just bring a lightweight waterproof top and risk the rest.

Is the HTC Hero the one with the bent end Martin? If so, I have one of those...what's next for me to do? (Apart from be bothered to learn about my 'phone of course )

It is. I've got the white version with a stupendously big extended battery on the back. You need to go to the market and download tapatalk. There are two versions, Pro and Free. The Free version lets you read posts but not actually post anything yourself. Pro version is $2.99 (ie about a cup of coffee in the places you drink!!). Then just search in Tapatalk for cycling chat and bingo. There are a couple of bugs still to be ironed out (have a look in the Software Feedback forum) but it works after a fashion.

We can discuss it on Friday (we'll have plenty of time!!). Will the battery on your phone last to Brighton and back??

12 Degrees? I'll be just wearing shorts - nothing else. If it gets to cold then I'll rub vaseline all over my upper body. If that's good enough for swimming the English channel then its good enough for this Friday night.

Well at least I won't be on my own then

I have got a power monkey. I usually forget to charge it but I bring it just in case. Where does one buy big batteries for the useless bloody thing that packed up on me in the early hours of Sunday morning..? (And don't get all technical on me - I'll introduce you to Tim O one day if you want to do stuff like that!)

Just google extended battery for htc hero. I think I paid about a tenner for mine. You get a new back cover that kind of spoils the svelt lines but it's a trade off!! I can now get 24 hours heavy use out of it (as opposed to about 8!!!)

I won't get technical. Spent 8 years working in IT Support, I can converse with the technically illiterate (sorry, layman)

Talk geek to me baby!

I've been looking at the HTC Desire so if you don't mind I'd be interested in the more geeky side of your current phone.

Thanks 'peretif!

Now I'm starting to get concerned though, with all this 'cold weather' talk. 12[sup]o[/sup]C. Does anyone know whether that's colder or warmer than the Bognor trip (i.e. colder than that hollow which felt like it was -3[sup]o[/sup]C after the halfway cafe stop)?

Give me a shout on Friday. The Desire is a fantastic bit of kit. Higher processor speed than the Hero, 1Ghz in a phone!!! HTC do have some interesting kit in their roadmap too but then if you always wait for stuff to move down the roadmap you'll never buy a phone!

Hey remember, I've never gone above 50 miles before. I'll be at the back keeping the TECs busy....
