It is with some regret that I announce the withdrawal of my intentions to do this ride, thus confirming Simon's wisdom at not adding me to the list. He clearly knows what I'm like.

This is a pity, as I recently paid my sub for another year specifically to be able to catch this, but I must pull out so as not to dilute my energy and precious bodily fluids for my upcoming W2W. (Also, my attentions are sought by another this weekend.)

Apologies to Ian McShane, who playfully threatened bodily dismemberment,

and Agent Hilda, who I suspect secretly has a crush on me ever since I started wearing these (how else to explain the anonymous tweets of calf porn?).

Not being au fait with trains, how does one get back from Whitstable to London ... or more exactly Morden (we all have our crosses to bear). Does one have to make special booking for bikes etc?
@User has promised to lead me astray ..... instead of riding back (i'm easily led) ....

it's South Eastern who are very good in regards to allowing bikes on trains. Turn up and go, no need to book. The guards are never fussed as long as they are not blocking the aisles. Your best bet would be Whitstable to Bromley South, then ride to Morden following the A232 all the way, or change at Bromley South for a Herne Hill train, ride from there or change at herne HIll for a Morden South train.

To be honest, I've no idea. It has mostly seemed to happen by magic.

There has been more than one of these rides where I remember leaving our breakfast venue then thinking "Oh, it' my London stop", and not recalling anything in between. As theclaud says, it seems to happen by magic.

{ at this point expecting Davy to chime in with an Amen and Alleluia }

Blimey! These train thingamyjigs seem remarkably user friendly ... even for drunks it seems ....

@ianrauk thanks for the routing option, I might just go to Victoria and then bimble down the A24 .... for nostalgia and reasons of auto-pilot navigation!

One has a modest amount of liquid refreshment before riding carefully and gently to the station. A groupsave ticket between a group is purchased and they get on the next train which takes them to Victoria.
And if you're very lucky, a trolley service of drinks and light refreshments is available. Like this:
