But there's still the opportunity afterwards for a shared breakfast.

If you're sharing I suggest you do so with Martin Brice as he doesn't like to eat much after these rides.

There are so many 'in' things being talked about on this thread that I'll probably give it a miss in reality. Fresh legs, fresh words will make all the difference to a Monday morning read - go to it, you new writers!

By 00:01 Frank, weddings will be "so yesterday" - just take the Galaxy, so that you can leave 'early Dawes'

Hmmmm... I'm sure Simon's edited his "no bawdiness" request since I last read it - to remove a double entendre.

I gather this ride is rather longer and stiffer than Brighton, and contains more continuous up-and-down riding. On the other hand it doesn't climax in a stiff peak with a grimace. But there's still the opportunity afterwards for a shared breakfast.

Can't particularly remember anyone apart from myself complaining about Whitstable, although I think the odd person has agreed it is more difficult than some of the others. I think Whitstable is harder for a variety of reasons that are not applicable to other people. I'm not sure what the consensus view would be.

Last time I did Whitstable, I had my single speed iron workhorse, stuffed with cakes, tools and grog. It is not difficult. Nearly always cold at the restart after 'Andys Cafe' though. It's all about warmth.

That you are special.

Well you may be stuck with me the back again

Do you not remember even Whitstable last year, got there and conk fell asleep? I do just find it a lot harder. It's a lovely ride though.

I agree with mike e that you do sort of get used to them.

I notice that it has such an effect that you cannot even write about it in such a fashion as to make sense.

Well I'm sure srw will get on fine with it, I never particularly pretended that everyone thought Whitstable was some brutal ride.

Not brutal. Yes, it's rolling, but there's nothing like Portnalls Road or Turners' Hill, let alone the Beacon...
And the last few miles into town make what effort there is all the more worthwhile!

But Stu! That reasoning implies that you have forsaken the ethos of the Friday Night Ride and decided to put the HAMMER down (instead of your good self for a change...) and arrive at the Waterfront in the leading group, rather than disseminate your vast experience among the less able riders who might need shielding from inclement breezes, fatigue and all sorts of everythings. It is perhaps their loss to see you scoffing your breakfast when they arrive!
