I am having Spirit in the Sky, the original version by Goldblum, Greenbaum, whoever it was. I stipulated it must NOT be the Gareth Gates version. Also having Rivers of Babylon by the Melodians, which is a very interesting song. Also having G.K. Chesterton's Rolling English Road read out. I suppose I should also stipulate no one is to read out their own compositions.

I’m a huge fan of Jim Morrison.
Very poignant especially when you read the lyrics:

This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end, my only friend
The end of our elaborate plans
The end of ev'rything that stands
The end
No safety or surprise
The end
I'll never look into your eyes again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need of
some strangers hand
In a desperate land
Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain
There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the king's highway
Weird scenes inside the goldmine
Ride the highway West baby
Ride the snake

To the lake
The ancient lake baby
The snake is long
Seven miles
Ride the snake
He's old
And his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here and we'll do the

The 1986 version (Number one in 17 countries) of Spirit in the Sky by Dr & the Medics is better, as it was recorded using modern digital technology not old 4 track tapes.

A friend of mine was the organist at a crematorium. She said they had lots of interesting, and sometimes inappropriate, requests.

The ex-RAF chap who went out to the Dambuster’s March.
Several requests for “Burn Baby Burn, Disco Inferno” and “Ring of Fire"

One very common request was for the hymn “Colours of Day”. Most people asking for it at the crematorium hadn’t realised that the chorus begins “
"So light up the fire and let the flame burn, Open the door....."

A lady I knew had two choices vetoed:
Living in a Box
Burn Lady Burn.

By far the best I attended had this chose by his wife as the closing music:

The Kinks Days (Original version) - YouTube

My immediate ideas are Da Da Da by Trio, as they go in. Vaughan-Williams' Fantasia on a theme by Tallis during; then The Red Flag to stir them as they leave.
