a small boy was run over by a cyclist on the pavement in Essex Road today. The police are stopping cyclists and questioning them.

Nasty. ;)

What makes it worse is how people turn a blind eye when something does happen. I hope someone DOES come forward with info.

Well that isn't a appropriate for high speed cycling & something I'd rather avoid. And with all seriousness, though the thought was there it's a real non-starter. I personally can't see why cyclist are complaining about that. I've seen far worse cycle paths without any 'traffic calming' on them. ;) I ride on stuff worse than that for s**t n' giggles.

I think this is a case of something has to be done & really it needs Police officers to randomly patrol that area, however with the police force in such a mess you can't really do anything like that.

seems a good idea, i assume that there was a problem with people cycling too fast, this will probably cure it.
For the unskilled it'd slow them down but for a skilled cyclist, usually the fast ones, it's not an issue. Not that I would or condone it but if I was in the mood I could use it as a use it as a high speed flip-flop course with free air on the spesh or I could just ride down flat out with very little problem. On the Marin honking in a high gear with good timing & +18mph no problems.

Apologies dellzeqq, didn't spot your original posting on this subject

Whilst commuting cyclist will likely avoid this stretch, it's likely to become a mecca for the local BMX/Cheap full susser chav brigade to hurtle up and down. Apart from the likely greater inconvenience to pedestrians etc. as already mentioned, Islington planners have played an absolute blinder here.

Hey, I love speed bumps on my mountain bike! If you pelt towards them as fast as possible, hit 'em just right and bunny-hop at just the right moment you can do huge jumps off 'em!

They also make a fun slalom course.

Danny McCaskill...........heheheheee.

I think it looks like Islington's contribution for the 2012 Games .

It won't be long before some one slips, falls or crashes, sustaining a serious injury then sues, at which point, they will be removed sharpish.

i hit one at near 30mph on my hardtail, the landing wasn't pretty and the wreckage of it is still evident in my basement!

Ah, what would a day be without the Daily Fail.

Although this raised a smirk... note the contributors name.

These lycra louts are an absolute plague - self-righteous pedalling vegans, generally to be found waving the flag of the politically-correct cause of the day while behaving like a menace to all normal people.

Ah! I have a hard-tail too ... sounds like you should have lifted the front more and thrown the bike forwards into the jump - that way you would have flown in a flatter arc and popped it down gently(ish!) on both wheels

One of the foaming-mouth rants inspired me to find (and post) stats on pedestrian deaths by vehicle type. I thought I'd add it here as well, as a handy cut-n-paste reference when the next time that old chestnut about rampaging cyclists slaughtering pedestrains comes up again.

Pedestrian deaths in 2008 from collision with a single vehicle:

Pedal Cycle .........................1
Motor cycle under 50cc..........0
Motor cycle over 50cc..........15
Car..................................332
Bus or coach.......................35
LGV...................................27
HGV...................................62
Other.................................17
