I can't get my two teenagers to do it even waving cash at them.

Luckily he's also into cycling and wants a full sus MTB above the level I'm willing to spend on him so he's been told he will have to make up the difference with his own money.

I initially started gardening at this house just to keep things tidy, then I planted a few flowers in pots, then a few more. I really enjoy coming home in the summer and doing my wee tour around the pots to see what's grown that day. Very therapeutic. Haven't got a clue what I'm doing mind you. One of my pots is growing a cracker of a plant but I've got a nagging suspicion it's a weed.

I've replaced the two curry plants and the two delphiniums that didn't survive the winter, £10 for four plants at a nearby garden centre. In other gardening news the lupins my Good Lady planted in pots have done better than the lupins I planted in the garden at the same time.

I’ve pretty much had a week off so I have had a couple of days to put the garden to bed.

Yesterday I pruned two large cherry trees, 5 rambling and climbing roses, cut back the dead foliage in my asparagus planter and girasol planter. Cleared two strawberry planters and pruned back a medlar. Cut back the autumn raspberries.

Today I pruned 16 cordon apple and pear trees. I also replaced the top two wires which were damaged in the winds.

Tomorrow I might sort out some more winter storm shelters for the chickens. They tend to hang out in one of my greenhouses which is nice for them, but I keep falling down their dust bath pits. With a week of warm weather they are laying like gattling guns. The cocks are also working out big time.

One Of my favourite jobs done. Mulched all my fruit, roses and asparagus with compost. About half a ton. Then I’ve turned about one ton from one bin to the next ready for late summer top ups. New Zealand system.

Compost is easily one of my greatest fascinations. I make about 1.5 tons a year, and thanks to my chickens and kitchen, it’s pretty good stuff. My neighbour calls it ‘Black Gold’. Says she hasn't seen anything like it since the 1950s whatever that means. The difference is, I have an organic system and I borrow biodynamic methods too. I daren’t tell her as she’ll get me tried for witchcraft.

Cup of coffee and I’ll go make some kindling.

I have 3 cloches covered in netting to keep the local pigeons and seagulls off my veg veg patch.

One of the cloches needs the netting replacing, after the TV aerial blew down and went through it.

I keep venturing out into the "man cave" or garage as it's more commonly know, but every time I think " blow this for a lark" and retreat indoors. I am going to have to get it sorted soon - it won't be too long until I need to start planting.......
