Yesterday I was out in the garden deciding which plants need moving/dividing later in the spring.

There is a fern that is in too much shade and too close to other ferns. Should I wait until it shows some signs of life before I move it, or move it while it is in a dormant stage?

I would move it now. No later than early spring. Most of the outdoor ferns here in the U.K. are very tolerant to transplanting.

Thank you. I have a space for it to go into. It will be in partial shade, but I think it will prefer that. The nearby ferns are in partial shade, but the dormant one, is in full shade.

I like the way ferns grow and unfurl. Are there ferns that are particularly spectacular for their "unfurling"? With the older ferns, the unfurling cannot be easily seen, as it is hidden by the larger (evergreen) leaves.

Small wildlife pond made from a 250 litre storage tank is pretty much done. Just need some marginals, oxygenators and a dwarf lilly to complete it. Maybe some bog plants. These seem to appear in the nurseries late March, but I’ll at least let the water settle for a while till then. I’ve made a ‘den/cave’ about 2 foot deep for overwintering beasties. I’m jealous. Hopefully some wayward amphibious types will have some interest in my meagre offering.

Finally been able to get out and start tidying the garden. The longer days really make a difference and it's been warm enough to potter, clearing all the late Autumn and Winter debris. Still got a bit to go.
The spring bulbs are really late comong up this year and the snowdrops are still lovely, so lots to look forward to.
For years I have been removing the old stems from the ornamental grasses, the first weekend in March but last weekend they were covered in snow! I started yesterday but need to go out and finish tidying around it.
While I was working on it, I pondered on how the garden has changed over the 30 years we have been here. There are many mature trees and shrubs that were here when we moved in, including the grasses. I have taken some out, like the Laburnam that I didn't want in a garden used by small children, some have died and some have had to be moved for the house extension. But over all, the original owners would recognise quite a lot! I especially love that some of the old roses are still going.

Rainy day. Perfect for sowing clients’ organic veg seeds.

Left the door to one of the greenhouses open and it looks like it has been turned into a dust bath spa deluxe.

If tomorrow's not a washout I'll be repairing the molehills and sorting the lawn out, clean the BBQ and pic up the tree sheddings.

Kids playhouse and trampoline is on the wifes radar for removal..

Summerhouse is a possible project this year!.

If it’s nice and dry, crack on with the lawn and if you can, post me the mole hill soil please. Best potting aggregate going. Thanks.

If wet, do the other stuff and leave the lawn well alone till I get there to give you a hand ;)
