The thing is, I completely understand why motorists are frustrated. Congestion is horrendous, and driving in any major UK city is stressful and exhausting, and it's getting worse. But congestion isn't caused by the government, the council, the police, cyclists, bus lanes, traffic calming, or any of the other bogeymen that the likes of Rutherford point the finger at. It's caused by the fact that there are too many cars on the road. Nothing is going to change unless the number of journeys made by car is reduced. A good way of achieving this is to get people riding bikes. Other ways are to encourage home-working, car-sharing and public transport use. The days of 'the freedom of the open road' are pretty much over.

Next time I see a ved exempt car I'm going to shout "get off the road you self-gratification artist and pay some road tax"

Although saying that if I've had a curry the night before the emissions coming from my bike would rival that of any VW so perhaps on reflection I should be made to pay a high emissions tax for cycling.
