I'm hoping to retire sometime in the next couple of years, aged mid 50's.

From talking with people who have retired relatively early and in decent health, they seem to fall into one of two categories:

  • Those who are so busy they can't understand how they used to do a full time job as well.
  • Those who got bored very quickly and more often than not ended up back in some sort of employment within a few months.
Having had 6 months of unemployment a few years ago I'm fairly certain I'll fall into the first category.

@Drago - a mate who retired from the police early fell into the 2nd category and is now a truant officer* for the local council, which he really enjoys and gets to meet many of his old "customers"^_^ Incidentally, my Grandad, who retired from the police in the '50s did something very similar.

*I'm sure the official title is something else, but you know what I mean.

Why don't you take drugs and stay up all night, you can sleep in the day then. All your problems are solved.
Just don't sleep, better all round.
