As Quesy said, once they discovered silver requires the least maintenance...plus a couple of ground breaking models are classic in arctic silver...

That does look nice in silver. But what of the 'ground breaking models' of which you speak?

From first to last:

Two-tone yellow and black, royal blue metallic, white, black, BRG (sighs...), pale blue metallic, silver metallic.

Silver hides the grime. I wanted black, personally.

My last car was silver, and I can't think of a more boring colour. It also used to vanish in fog, which made me very careful to use the headlights when visibility was poor, otherwise no-one would have seen me. I vowed I would never have a silver car again, so what did I replace it with? An older Merc in ... smoke silver (Rauchsilber), which fortunately is a rather nice champagne colour. The MX-5 is Innocent Blue Mica, which is lovely.

Best colour ever was a Triumph Dolomite in Emerald Green, which was a superb colour. Worst ever was another Dolomite in Russet Brown, which was precisely the colour of dog plop.

Most of the greens have been that light metallic green colour, those and the greys were all chosen to show the dirt least. Other colours have gotten in because of Mrs FF's input.

Our car is bright blue, previous ones were denim blue, sunflower yellow (my choice) red, dark red, red.
Variations of brown seem to be popular just now, a colour not seen for a while.
Oops, current car bright blue but previous was copper red, forgot the Mazda!
Mostly red cars (maybe as Mr M is an Aberdeen fan)
Yellow was my favourite until I saw it after we sold it, cannibalised and turned into a pure chav mobile

Our car is a light blue, which is not over common. But we used to have a small silver Kia, and I lost it for several minutes in the local big Tesco car park. A silver car lost in a sea of silver cars......

I looked out the window the other day and counted 7 cars on my block. Apart from my red one all were grey or silver, whatever you want to call it. The fellow across the road has had 5 VW Golfs since he's lived there, all apart from one have been silver. The other one was graphite but he got rid of it because he "didn't like the colour"!

The only conclusion to be drawn is that you've owned a shed load of cars.
