White has become the new silver

According to the latest new car registration figures released by the SMMT, White has been the most popular new car colour for the past three years.

In 2015 more than a fifth (21.4%) of new cars were white compared with less than 1% ten years earlier.

In contrast, silver, which was the most popular new car colour through most of the 2000s, now accounts for just over 10% of new car sales and comes 6th in the SMMT's top ten:

  1. White - 21.4% (up 2.2% on 2014)
  2. Black - 19.4% (up 5.3%)
  3. Grey - 15.6% (up 21.1%)
  4. Blue - 14.7% (up 15.5%)
  5. Red - 12.1% (up 1.8%)
  6. Silver - 11.2% (down 5.2%)
  7. Green - 1.1% (up 31.2%)
  8. Brown - 1.0% (down 23.3%)
  9. Orange - 0.7% (up 25.7%)
  10. Mauve - 0.5% (up 30%)

Triumph Dolomite, Russet Brown
Renault 5GL, metallic brown
Volvo 360GL, metallic grey
Vauxhall Viva, blue/rust
Morris Ital estate, Vermilion
Renault 18GL, silver
Ford Capri 2.8i, silver
Mini Chelsea, red
VW campervan, green
Citroen BX, silver
Mitsubishi L300 van, blue
Land Rover 90, blue

Ford Transit campervan, white
Range Rover 3.9, red (ex-SAS)
Discovery II, blue
Range Rover 4.6, metallic red

I'm sure I have missed a couple. (And then there are the motorbikes, don't ask.)

I make that 27% blue, 27% silver, 19% red, 12% green and 15% other. No conclusions can be drawn from this data.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on some excellent vehicle choices on that list ;)

My father in law has a grey/silver car. When he parks on a big and full car park he puts a little fluorescent flag on his roof aerial so that he can find it when he goes back to the car, because there are so many grey/silver cars out there.
