I caught up with a chap on a cycle path today who was obviously not a newbie but the socks looked so funny and out of place. I can't talk as nothing of mine really matches but he had matching everything and a nice bike. He took off at the next junction then slowed down just before the path narrowed so I couldn't overtake him, I don't think he wanted a woman to pass him, luckily it was just before my turn round point.

Errr..... I don't think it was me..... but I will confess to this exact sin (when commuting not a jolly of course), as it is one less thing to change out of when I get to work, must save me at least 30 seconds....)

Maybe he was going to work even though it was Sunday? As long sad not wearing the grey socks with cleated sandals!

what are these "work" socks whereof you speak? I simply have socks - different thickness for different shoes maybe, but not work / play

Likewise. Anyway, what are the rules for socks when cycling? I normally wear my everyday socks folded down to just above the shoe. Have I done wrong, and should I instead wear my normal Friday night knee high stripped one's instead??

you'd never catch @vickster committing such a faux pas. I was riding with her yesterday; she co-ordinated her new stolen goat jersey with matching white and blue socks. Only the copper coloured bike spoiled the look.

(scarily, this could be the beginning of her next n+1)

Most cyclists used to wear white socks or none at all, nowadays anything goes (same with runners) most of mine are black. I still run & cycle with people who wear nothing but white socks for sport.
