No problems in my local Halfords this evening , picked up a new track pump priced at £39 on the shelf, showed them their web page with it at £26 and my British Cycling voucher and got it for £23.40 without any quibbles.

My only real experience of Halfords staff not having a clue goes back a good few years.
I had ordered a bike through C2W.
Picked the bike , mudguards and a few other bits.

Turned up to collect it and it had huge clip on mudguards on it. Not the tidy , full length set I had ordered.
The guy said that they couldn't be fitted to the bike I ordered as they didn't fit.
All they had to do was shorten the stays slightly.

He then tried to explain that the big , ugly , not very well fitting guards were fine.
Instead I got the guards I wanted and asked him which bike they would fit on to.
Practically the same model, but without disc brakes.
So I took that instead.
Then since it was £50 cheaper , I was due a refund.
Guy on the till can't figure out why it won't put the refund through.
Manager turns up and he can't work it out either.

I knew what the problem was.
C2W money can't be refunded as it will still be paid tax free.

Eventually the manager just handed me fifty tax free pounds.

Changing the bike to suit the mudguards seems a bit the wrong way round to me.

Changing the bike to suit the mudguards seems a bit the wrong way round to me.
I know , but at the time most of my cycling was on the local canal path which was pretty mucky .
I wasn't too fussed about the disc brakes, so the cheaper model made sense.
Not as much sense as doing the job as originally requested , but that's Halfords.
