So wearing a brooch with a exoticised/fetishised representation of an African dating from a time when a black being worth 3/5 of a white was enshrined in law, to a party to welcome someone who's mother was African American, and herself by the "one drop rule" (and other calculations) would also be regarded as black, and whose parent's relationship would have been illegal in parts of the US a mere 12 years before they married could be regarded as racist?

It's political correctness gone mad!

Even the British Royal Family would be black under the 'one drop rule'.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Only if you accept Evolution
Nothing to do with evolution. Homo sapiens hasn't had long enough to evolve materially since its African exodus. Genetically we are still Savannah-dwelling bipedal apes.

I suppose that if you're daft enough to believe that the half life of Carbon 12 isn't a constant you might be daft enough to disbelieve an African origin for humanity. But then you've probably got bigger problems.

A creationist would just argue that God made the world 6,000 years ago complete with different races and fossils ...

Actually, Homo Sapiens has evolved notababy in the last two centuries. Height, proportions, even women's figures, have all measurably changed in that time. The basic genome hasn't changed much, but its doesn't need to for certain characteristics to change over relatively short periods, as these can be triggered and sustained by things such as diet and lifestyle.

African exodus is part of Evolutionary Theory

Not if you understand evolution it's not. Granted the sort of idiot who doesn't accept evolution doesn't understand it, but that's reason for those who both understand and accept it to misuse terms.

I’ve not read the entire thread, so apologies if the use of the word ‘niggling’ has already been pointed out, but...

And it's important for those of us who understand something of etymology - which include Ms. Vine and the Mail subeds who wrote the subhead - not to get carried away. The words niggle and niggardly have nothing to do with racism. The Mail is so full of any number of egregious examples of racism, sexism and any other kind of prejudice you can think of that you don't need to go inventing slights that at worst will be designed to attract the attention of right-on useful mugs for the Mail to laugh at.

What is the etymology of the words? Genuine question.
