I like how Matt is doing the exact opposite of what I wished I'd done at his age, I completely understand though.
I have been driving around local roads a lot (transporting family around). Its given me plenty of time to get used to the car and I am happy with the progress I have made on my own (building confidence).Come to think of it, I have not seen out since you passed your test, either on the bike or in your car.
My bikes are just gathering dust, not being used.
And I think that goes with most people. Let's face it , it is so easy to get into the car as compared to having to put on cycling gear , get bike out etc... especially in winter. But the pleasure of cycling is still great and enjoyable. There is room for car and cycle, it is just a question of determination and priorities. Before I passed my driving test many years ago I either cycled or ran everywhere. I saw cycling as a means to get somewhere not as a very good way off keeping fit. One of the biggest mistakes I made! Took me 20 years to get back on a bike.
I have just checked it out. Looks really good, but like you are doing, I might just go and do the route before hand.Fancy doing the Tour De Mon on Anglesey in August? Thinking of entering the 40 miles section. I am going to check out the route on wednesday.
