Hero to Cyclists

I'm sure it would say if the answer was something outside of the control of the rider, I've learned its often what they omit that is most telling in news articles, especially those involving traffic incidents and cyclists.
Maybe. Even so, if he made a mistake, hands up if you never have. Reading the news reports I don't get the impression he was Mr reckless so I'm inclined to cut the guy some slack.

The only way it would not have been self inflicted were if it were a contaminated road surface, or a mechanical. Had it been either of those two his ego would have pounced forth and proclaimed it from the rooftops.

The tyres coefficient of friction was exceeded, and Mateys hands were on the controls at the time. Case closed M'Lud.

Its just so farking annoying to be honest why even mention what he didnt hit, either he was in control of the bike and swerved to miss cyclists which is just what anyone should do and doesn't make him a "hero" or he wasn't in control of the bike and it was just luck. I don't see why I need to grateful to some guy on a motorbike managing to not kill some people.

The cyclists seemed to think that's what happened.
Um, we don't actually know that. No one but the victim has spoken with the cyclists. They saw him in a ditch, paralysed from the waist down, said "ta very much for saving our lives" and disappeared for ever, apparently.
Today was another successful day of not killing or injuring anyone through my own incompetence, hurrah, where's my news piece?

I'm sure the Daily Mail would run it, especially if you can somehow link it to being too fat, too thin, too foreign, having too much or not enough control at airports or causing or curing cancer.
If you want it guaranteed to get in, it needs to have side boob, or side bum or preferably both.

Well, I'm not aware of all the details here, but I would ask, how one can continue to steer and out of control motorbike? Probably just chance that he missed the cyclists.

A bloke rode his motorcycle too fast for his skill level, lost control and crashed putting the lives of a group of cyclists at risk.

Now he wants a medal for it.

When the Virgin Pendolino came of the track at Carnforth, it was reported that the driver fought to get the train under control. This was seen as very silly by us, as railway engineers. How on earth does a driver control a train.
Turns out that, after being thrown off his seat, the driver's first thought was to apply the emergency brakes, and fought to get to the controls to do that. Chances are that they were being applied anyway, either by him not being in his seat, or by the couplings breaking. So he was trying to do the right thing, even though the press reports made it sound very silly, and even though it was probably quite pointless.

Seems a bit harsh. Having been caught out at slow speed on a patch of diesel in the car, it was scary and I had no warning. As a recent convert to motorcycling I'm very aware that it would have been a much bigger moment on two wheels.

As I recall, early June was frequently wet so the road may well have been damp at the time.

I've had loads of offs but I've never hit a group of cyclists, heroically skidding across the road surface at great personal cost (to my pride) instead.

Feel free to start a fundraising campaign for me to buy a shedload of cheap plonk to celebrate.

Bloody motorcycles. Dangerous and noisy. You wouldn't catch me on one of those things!

What details do you expect to emerge? The accident* happened two months ago. The police will have finished their investigations. He's admitted he was at fault, so there is not much to investigate. I can't imagine they'd press charges under the circumstances. No one else was injured, so there's going to be no civil claim. No one is dead, so there is no coroner. Unless the cyclists come forward, we aren't going to get any further information.

He's got enough money now for his wheelchair, I don't begrudge him that. It's a hard road ahead of him.

**Yeah, I'm calling this an accident.
