I've deleted all my off topic posts. Please do the same.
I'd honestly thought we were engaging in a mutually-respectful discussion of a philosophical topic. I was enjoying it and I was appreciating your opinions - it's a surprisingly hot subject, considering old William has been dead for around 700 years.

Philosophical discussions do tend to be robust, but perhaps I'm immune to that after years of having my own work roundly criticized, and I honestly did not get any sense of any bad feeling that it seems might have been arising.

I'm happy to remove my replies from our dialog, which I shall shortly do.

Very best,
Alan

If you are black and white then losing control means you have no control. But it's possible to be partially in control, or in control knowing you will be out of control a split second later.

I've had it on my bike, going into a 90 degree right gander at the bottom of a steep hill. I hit the corner and knew instantly that my front wheel was losing traction. I had a choice, to try and steer round the corner or try to lessen the angle add much as possible but going into hedges. I chose the latter as I didn't want to fall into the road. I ended up with cuts and bruises. Nothing broken (me or bike). It knocked my confidence on downhills for about 18 months afterwards.
Was it the best decision? I'll never know.

Try it again but this time try the 'steer harder, crash into the road' thing and tell us on here if you died. Then we'll know:evil:
