I'm afraid I had to stop watching Homes Under The Hammer, because you would have a lovely old home that had great little period features, great fireplaces, stained glass windows, etc.

But then some w*****r would buy the place, rip it all out and make it into a bland, featureless, identikit house devoid of any sort of character or anything.

I always wondered what the hell people were thinking.

You mean you don't like pale grey walls with a live life love stencil? 😂

My bedroom was grey and white in the 80's (I was a teen). Striped wall paper - grey, white and black. No wonder my eyesight went.

I was a teen in the 70's, and my bedroom had one wall a tangerine orange, and the other three a fairly dark but bright green.

It never get's better when kids want bedrooms painting. My daughter wanted most of her walls in a mid shade purple in her teens. I was dead against it, but did it. Paid for it some years later when she wanted white. It took about 5 coats to cover it, and a room a foot narrower with the amount of paint !

I'm not claiming this house is hideous... but rather than start a thread I'll post it here since it is for sale near me.

...it's been like that for a few years.

Is it something that should set alarm bells ringing for a prospective buyer?

It could be rainwater run off from the gutters that is causing the discolouration or something serious like possibly damp but could either be a quick cheap fix or a big job.

Surprised there is no “ugly” Dutch houses yet, their streets are full of wonderful unique homes that are different to their neighbours.

Looking at street view, that wall was fully rendered in 2009 then in the 2022 and 2026 drive-by's the wall is like that, so for some reason it's been de-rendered than half re-rendered and left. It could just be discoloured from recent rain, but who knows?

I do like a street with lots of different houses

Strangely, no.

I had yellow walls, later painted white (I know, I know, but it was done by my Mum, who seemed to have a thing about things being white 🙄).
To be fair, I had outgrown the yellow anyway.

My Sister wanted her bedroom painted black and eventually got her way. It was awful and it seemed to suck all the light away - No light particle ever escaped with its life intact! 😆

She later repainted it purple, lesson learned.
My Y fronts are orange with brown trim.
TMI!

Chap who did our kitchen ( small local business) told me that his previous install was a big place in Sandbanks. All customised stuff, Italian marble worktops etc. The lady was of an artistic bent and she had one of the main rooms wallpapered in customised " Where's Wally " wallpaper, every wall. 😮
