Your guess is as good as mine, but I know where my mind has gone and it's pretty awful.
Indeed, I am thinking of the Swingers' house again!

Was the contractor drunk or did they want patio doors on the front?

One of the houses I looked at when I was wanting to buy had been a small derelict cottage. It had been refurbished and extended with a kitchen and master bedroom added at the rear. All the properties in the road had dog-leg rear gardens so the garden of one was partly behind the neighbouring property. Probably a throw-back to how the land was divided up.

Anyway this bungalow had been built with patio windows in the new master bedroom at the back of the house. Patio windows that looked out onto next-door's garden, so if you'd thrown your curtains open in the morning after stumbling out of bed there was a chance you'd be looking straight at the neighbour hanging their washing on the line.

This was the same house that had a brand-new fitted kitchen with no space, or plumbing, for a washer. Or anywhere else, like a garage or utility room, to have one.

Friends of ours bought a house a few years ago that looked good, with a modern kitchen, but when they moved in they found the gas cooker, the dishwasher and washing machine had not been plumbed in but were just for show.

What grinds my gears are bungalow conservatories.
You design bungalows with the day rooms at the front (living/dining), bedrooms at the back and the kitchen, bathroom / toilets in between.
Then someone wants a conservatory overlooking the back garden so one of the bedrooms effectively becomes a corridor leading to the conservatory, the bedroom is lost or moved to elsewhere and then the madness really begins.
Apologies for triggering anyone that done this and thinks it's wonderful. And painted it all in shades of battleship grey... 😆

Bungalows seem to have some very ill-thought layouts. When my dad bought one in the mid 90s it needed some knocking about to make the space work; blocking up the kitchen entrance from the lounge and opening up a kitchen pantry/cupboard so it could be entered from the hallway, which is how it should have been laid out in the first place.
