You can make youtube videos visible to only the person that you send the link to if you want . I can't check which box you have to tick as I'm on the mobile at the mo, but I think it is the 'private' option.

Get yourself a free Vimeo account and upload it - you can then share without having to worry about file formats, downloading, etc.
