Just got back from the vets. 😩
One of our rabbits hasn’t been acting normally for a few days.
Sadly the vet said it had pneumonia and fluid in the lungs. It had lost 25% body weight in a week. Prognosis was terminal so after monitoring him for 24 hours we decided to say goodbye this afternoon.
It amazing how attached you get to a rabbit. It was a rescue that we adopted from a charity, so we gave it a fantastic 7 and half years of life instead of a short horrible life in a tiny hutch.
It’s a good age for a rabbit that spent 100% of its time outdoors sniffing around his run and enjoying the feeling of sun, rain and even snow on his back. He much prefer drinking from a puddle than a water bowl.

Thought I'd give this thread a bump as I know Sam the op from another forum and said I'd say hello to you guys for him. Chompsky is still chomping and being a loveable little rascal. Here he is pondering his latest purchase.

Why is it ok to have many rabbits in the country. I want a pet ground hog. Why can’t they breed them & be in the pet shops the same as rabbits are?

Thanks for the bump.

Whilst one of our rabbits died 2 years ago our other rabbit is still going strong and nearly 10 years old now. It has lived every day of its life outside in the heatwaves and freezing cold. It goes to the vet once a year for a check up but appears to be invincible.

It’s my daughter ‘a pet. She is due to go to uni in September. So we will have to take over caring duties. When we bought the rabbit 10 years ago we didn’t envisage a rabbit lasting this long!
