Scottish, European then Br*tish.

I take it you have a particular dislike to being British @Mad Doug Biker

Indeed, there were many Scottish regiments containing many brave men who laid down their lives in the fight for their country in many conflicts over the years. They fought and died serving the British armed forces.
Quite poignant as we approach Remembrance Day. I will remember them with the utmost respect and all others who fell serving this country.

British is a nationality, not a race.

We are all from Africa anyway if you go back far enough.

(oh, and don't get all hoity-toity about being homo sapien either - if you are white then you probably have a significant amount of Neanderthal DNA)
Pangaea, of which Africa was in the center of.

EU stands for European Union, which means a union of European countries so when the UK leaves the EU, it will not be part of the Union, hence Europe. This is also what many of the people I spoke to when I was in France last week, think too.
Their view is that GB will be on its own and will find it hard to deal with Europe.
Until Germany,Italy, France & Holland have their referendums then 'Europe' could be much smaller.

Europe (in my view) is an expanse of land & Countries within an area of the Globe. The EU is a monolithic entity, corrupt & a parody of the ideal it was meant to be, Fifa on an epic scale.

I wonder if you saw someone's made up set of question. Back when I did it, there was nothing about pub culture, nothing about TV, nothing about any individual (except the Queen, and she was there as Monarch not as a person). It was a fine set of question to see that you understood how British democracy worked, how the bureaucracy (should) work, and how society functioned. Yes, there were specific questions about the make up of each chamber of Government, but it doesn't seem crazy to understand that at least briefly.

There were only about 48 hours in my life when I could tell you about the number of members of the Northern Ireland Assembly, but I suspect that is longer than most brits have held onto this fact.

I too was sceptical of some of the claimed questions in the papers, but a pal was marrying a pakistany girl, and he confirmed some of the questions she was expected to answer really were daft - it may have been from the "how to get in" study guide but was daft. Basics of constitution is one thing, exact number of MPs - not so much

Pardon??

Because I said 'Br*tain' I am now somehow disrespecting everyone in the services who has fought and died (including some of my relatives)??!!

No, I don't like the way Britain (there said it, hooray!) is now politically*, not what it was like at the time of these conflicts (I do not know enough of what it was like in the last two world wars), and it is my democratic right to say so (ironically fought for in WW2, oh the irony. The extra irony being that people now tell us that we must 'respect' all the time, as if there is some sort of great 'respectometer' out there. The truth is, people do it in different ways, but no, the media pumps out this horrible form of emotional facisism every single year where we all have to be exactly the same. Wearing a poppy - Good person!, not wearing a poppy - Bad person, not bowing enough to place a wreath - Bad person! Etc etc. Everyone is different).

For your information, I 'remember' regularly as our family only have the one picture of my Great Uncle Hugh who was killed over Berlin in a Wellington Bomber in 1940. I have been trying to find more pictures, but alas have not positively identified any yet, even the RAF museum at Hendon was a waste of time.

I wonder what happened exactly (I guess I'll never know), I have the number of the aircraft, the names of his crewmates, and how many other crews were lost that day, but that is about it.

We were even the first in our family to visit his grave in Berlin 60 odd years after he was killed.
There was also my Great Great Uncle Hugh who was in the merchant Navy and was killed when his ship was sunk. I have never even seen a picture of him before and nobody seems to know what happened there exactly.

A picture of the two of them would be worth more to me than every poppy ever produced in the history of the universe!

So, no, no, everyone is different, and waving all that emotional crap about Scottish Regiments and so on just doesn't wash with me, sorry, I am disrespecting nobody, only the people who still haven't realised that everyone is different.

* - Since I hate the whole seething mass of scum that is the British political elite, will I move away? No probably not, besides, I wouldn't have the means, and lets face it, everywhere else has their own problems anyway.

The "truth" is that there were and are many people from and in Scotland who have no need to be "reminded" about "showing respect" and who have had family members killed or injured in the name of "Britain" - and many of those who were killed or "served" will have been Nationalists. I take exception to being told what I should do and think to "show respect" as it's mostly establishment bollocks to subvert challenge and truth.

edit - not a "dig" at you btw @classic33 :okay:
