Actually, I'm just thinking - I know of only one other couple who met in our year at Uni and subsequently got married. Plus one couple who were living together after Uni, but they may or may not still be nowadays as we've lost touch.

Aye we didn't go to that uni, was just the club we both went to... but I know no one from uni that stayed togther... maybe uni isn't the place to met

December the 7th 1991. Was at the Glasgow Tech (Now the Caladoina university) Student union. Back in the 80s early 90s it was the Goth club in Glasgow. Um so yeah, meet there... as did every couple I know!

I used to do a bit of teaching at that Uni. I'd park my car in the multi storey attached to the bus station over the road and then go and do a lecture to the medical students about using diagnostic equipment. I was never able to drive my car after these sessions as the students would insist on me going into that amazingly noisy bar and we'd all get absolutley shoot-faced. It was like a rare occasion for me but this lot gave every impression it was a daily occurence for them!

Met my partner through an advert in a magazine. Mind you, I wasn't looking for a man - I'd just split up with one and wanted to take a break from relationships. I'm a fantasy role play fan (D&D, Vampire: The Masquerade, Call of Cthulhu, the lot) and I was looking for people to play with, as I was missing it a lot since I moved out of my home country. He rang, he came along and we clicked instantly. We've been together for over 3 years now and looks like we'll stay together for a while.

I was a postdoctoral fellow, she was just finishing a PhD and her supervisor knew I had spent time in Japan and asked me if I could read through her final draft with her and check her English. I knew she was the one for me almost immediately. Only thing was I was with someone else at the time, and someone who, despite the fact that things were already not going so well, I did love. A long agonising year passed during which time she went back to Japan and my then partner and I tried and failed to keep things together. Then it just got more complicated as when her brother and parents back in Japan found out, they were not at all happy (to put it mildly...). She was disinherited but we got married anyway three and a half years ago, it is still wonderful, and we are now, finally, expecting a baby, due in December... and will be moving to the place we've always wanted together on an island in Canada in September.

Gatwick Airport. Departure lounge. Absolute truth and no regrets after nearly 30 years.

Nevertheless I still dislike airports.

The local pub quiz. A friend had a team and they needed 'someone who read books' so gave me a call. One of his team members I knew vaguely as we'd been to school together. We found ourselves going to the pub together even if the rest of the team couldn't make it and it started to take an hour to walk me the 100 yards home. Fate intervened and as he always rode his bike to the pub (we were 17/18) and it was weeing with rain I invited him in to sit it out. We ended up snogging in the porch. Romance.

College when doing A-levels. She walked by with a friend and I knew she was the one. Fortunately she still is. Took me three months to pluck up the courage to ask her out proper by which time another friend had asked her out (groan). Cue almighty scrap for her affections and she eventually dumped him. It will be 30 years this September that she walked by. Coincidentally, the girl she walked by with, visited us by surprise this weekend, which is unusual as she lives in Singapore and we rarely see her.

A guy who does some plumbing and joinery work for me is from London.

Asked him one day how he ended up living and working in Glasgow. He went to the pub one Friday near Kings Cross in 1987 for a beer on pay day. Had been paid a whack for a job he did and had loads of overtime as worked round the clock to get the job done the last week. Got his wage, overtime and finishing bonus, £2500 if I remember right in cash.

Got chatting to a Girl from Glasgow. Decided to get the train with her for a laugh and ended up in Glasgow on the Sat morning. Went and bought clothes etc.... and never went back. Was married a year later, still is to her and has 2 daughters.
