'Not really skillful'

really?

the things you learn

I'd have to agree with Tynan. I had this argument before on C+. They are very very skillful IMO. Sure, the risk of an incident is well up, but not nearly as much as might be expected.

In the same way as driving a car at well over the speed limit in a built-up area is skillful?

Having ridden those roads on both motorbikes and bicycles it has to be said, because of the positioning of the camera you can't really see that the riders in front have a much better view of traffic and the road ahead than you get while following them.

I think what you really mean is something along the lines that they are taking risks, riding illegally and/or stupidly. Don't confuse that with skillful riding, because that description also applies. Perhaps it's more about you not wanting to ascribe any positives to the riding shown in the videos, which I can't blame you for.

I am just not a hundred per cent convinced it is skillful as much of what they are doing is relying upon the good sense of others to keep out of their way - which could go horribly wrong.

Personally I think that skill on the roads is about a greater sense of anticipation of things around you - and taking them into consideration - and not relying upon what in my book is akin to bullying to keep moving.

Their behaviour is no different to the cabby giving you a hairbreadth's space or the driver hurtling through a residential street.

Having said that, of course, as tdr1nka says, you can't actually see the road in front of the leading riders - so it might not be as bad as it looks.

But don't mind me - I'm having a grumpy day at work.

I quite like these videos, some of the riding's skillful. However, at the start of the video there's some falling off in a car park, not so cool, n'est-ce pas?

I dont see much skill, unless you class dangerous and selfish cycling skillfull? The only thing they seem to show a lot of,is not being bothered about who they put at risk,id call that stupidity, not skill, there is nothing there that any experienced cyclist couldnt do,unless of course they werent bothered about anyone.

It is the sort of thing that make it harder for the rest of us to get respect from other road users. That lot deserve as much respect a bunch of boy racers in Nissan Micras etc. None. Respect should earned not demanded.

Yeah. It's the other drivers that can't. That's the problem.

I don't believe that, anyway, that wasn't even a once a year event

the vast majority of the damage done to regular cyclists' reputation is done by regular cyclists

This makes me really angry - what bunch of ****heads. This is exactly the kind of thing that makes drivers want to squish cyclists.

Stupidity not skill - they are relying on the goodwill of pedestrians and vehicles to avoid them - no doubt, one day, they'll l be relying on the goodwill of the local A&E dept as well!
