I just use washing up liquid, been using the same bottle for over 6 years.
I only put water in it.
That technique has worked for me, only tap water goes into the bottle in the morning, strictly no additives.

I carry Milton sterilizing tablets, same as use for baby bottles, leave them in the sink overnight with half a tablet in.

I've got 6 bottles in Milton right now. Its something I do a could of times a year. Two of them are camelbak bottles and it's a fix idea to take the nozzles apart regularly as the inside doesn't get cleaned properly.

I chuck mine in the washing up every few days. Hot summer days or worse reaching well over 30° in the car I just think It's good practice.
