I was born in 1950 and I can remember my parents driving back from visiting my grandmother who lived on a farm, about 20 miles away from Orleans. It was foggy that day and I have a brief memory of the car my father was driving. It was a Peugeot 201, built in the 30's , so the car was pretty old by then as I must have been about 5 years old I guess. Because the end of WW2 was still fairly recent, I suppose the car industry wasn't booming yet.

I have shadowy memories of the boy next door when I was 2, plus my mum remarrying when I was nearly 3. Much stronger memories from 3 onwards, like setting off the burglar alarm in the shop we ran for a while.

terrible short term memory though. Where are my keys/wallet/sun-glasses/car?

My first memory is of me driving my Spitfire and shooting down the bosch in their Messerschmitts over Kent in about 1940/41. A rather spiffing prang until I got shot down over Normandy and was shipped off to Colditz where I spent time with David McCallum and Anthony Valentine but of course I escaped along with Jim Rockford and spent the rest of war as an RAF pilot and helped destroy the V1/2 launch sites at Peenemunde. But I don't like to talk about all that.

I remember tugging on my Mum's dress in a kitchen, when she was holding a small baby, who was one of my sisters. Given that she's only 3.5 years younger than me, I guess I must have been about 4.

An old aunt had one of those glass ball ornaments which you can shake and see "snow flakes" falling inside it. My earliest memory I can recall is the fascination with it and always running straight to the mantelpiece to shake it every time I was there which was frequent as she only lived a few hundred yards away. I also remember dropping it and seeing it smash into smithereens on the hideous 70s pattern lino and the subsequent telling off and clip around the ear...

I have a very very early memory that my Dad disputes about having a line of shrubs in the garden, I've not seen a photo of them there but I know they existed, Dad says I can't remember them as I was too young when they were removed. But he doesn't dispute that they were there!

The next datable memory was when one of my siblings was born, and I remember all the adults cooing and ignoring the two older children, so I'd be 3 years and 3 months then, and again when the next sibling was born, waiting on the steps to be allowed to go into see the new baby so just over 4 then.
