I remember being in my pram outside the butcher shop, letting go of a yellow ballon and watching it disappear. Also sitting on a sausage shaped balloon and getting a huge fright when it burst  on my 3rd birthday.
Also remember stirring cake mix and my teddy bear cake, hideous dress and riding on Harry Watson's back round the sofa (he was my horse), 4th birthday.
Then sister and I being in Mrs Watson's living room with my mum who was very fat (pregnant) wearing a blue floral dress.Later on we went home and there was a fat, very ugly thing called John (my brother) xx( Where did he come from?
Pretty much most things after that were  and tried to forget.
All great now though :okay:

View attachment 355199 I was born in 1950 and I can remember my parents driving back from visiting my grandmother who lived on a farm, about 20 miles away from Orleans. It was foggy that day and I have a brief memory of the car my father was driving. It was a Peugeot 201, built in the 30's , so the car was pretty old by then as I must have been about 5 years old I guess. Because the end of WW2 was still fairly recent, I suppose the car industry wasn't booming yet.

I have several clear memories from the age of two onwards
Being the eldest of 6 even today the rest of the family use me to fill in gaps of what happened to whom and when
I had to write a eulogy recently, I was surprised by how little the rest of the family remember

I have a lot of memories of when I was very young but couldn't put dates on them, mind you if you asked me what I was doing half an hour ago I wouldn't have a clue.

My earliest memory is aged 5 and a half, Dad having to feed my brother and I for a few days - mostly baked beans on burnt toast I understand - while Mum went to hospital. When she returned it was with our baby sister.
My earliest memory of World events would be the moon landings from around the same time. I don't specifically remember the first landing - I'm not sure we had a telly at the time - but I do remember near life size cardboard cutout figures of astronauts placed outside chemist shops, I assume they were advertising a brand associated with the landings, perhaps Kodak or Polaroid ?

I can remember back to when I was probably about ,2-3. The simmer din endless days, the 5 hours of daylight in winter, my Dad waiting a month for parts for his Land Rover to arrive and having to use my Mums Allegro.

Then I remember prep school, secondary school, Gavorche's heroe's shooting at me in the Army, and generally pretty much everything after that.

I don't remember where I was when JFK was shot. Complete blank. Worrying.

On that event I have a confession. I was in secondary school and the day after he was shot we were given a Geography lesson on the industries of the USA. One question in the text book was:-
'What is Dallas famous for?' I graffitied on the text book, 'The assassination of JFK.'

I am somewhat taken aback at this vandalism perpetrated by my younger self, but boy was it true!

I have a very vague memory of going down a long white tube and emerging into a confusing world.
I also remember watching Spitfires shooting at German bombers over the Forth Bridge. Some of the bullet cases fell into our garden and I kept them for some years but eventually they vanished. I was taken later to see a crashed German plane in a field near our house.
