Numbers aren't generally important to me unless they're a defined part of the ride - eg audax rides, but the sole reason I do audaxes is because I enjoy riding my bike and they're a format that suits me. As mentioned in another thread, though, I'm not interested in the points or awards side of audaxing, it's all about the quality of the route and the opportunity to spend a day (or two) out on my bike.
Typical Sunday club ride, with riding to the start and home again afterwards, is 100-120km, but the purpose of that ride is being sociable, the distance is irrelevant and will vary depending on how I feel on the day.
Midweek rides are usually no more than 30-40km, as that's the most I ever have time for.
I don't really understand the focus being the miles or the ride, really. For me, it's all about the purpose or the destinations.
You don't ever ride for its own sake? Fine if not, but for me, a day out on the bike is a pleasure in and of itself.
