How far should you ride?

If you are anything like me at that age, you need to take hills more gently. Don't try to get to the top before you run out of energy. Start gently and keep it easy until you can see the top. Then think about getting out of breath.
If you are picking some really big hills, then I found counting my pedal strokes helps me on the really tough bits. Just tell yourself that you can manage 30, say, and then count them.

I've been cycling 5 days and I've cycled nearly 70 miles so far, not great speed I average around 10mph.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
When I was 15 my bike didn't have gears. I remember walking up steep hills in the Peak Dsitrict but that was fine, just part of the day out.
this was mine with hub gear broke so stuck in fast gear , great fun on hills

Here is proof that you should only be out for no longer than 1 hour in Lockdown...Bit of a shame if you ask me

What is a shame is the repeated misinformation that is being reported as fact by so many websites including some cycling ones (as above) based on an unofficial remark passed by Michael Gove in to what he thought was an appropriate amount of exercise.

Here is the governments current legislation

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/made/data.pdf

and here is the official guidance to go with it

https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...avirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do

neither of which mention anything related to how long you can exercise, other than you should be minimising time spent away from home - which could in reality mean anything.

This is off topic really and is discussed in greater detail here

It's not proof, you can go out for as long as you like. Velospeed aren't the Government.

Anyway, it's always worth working out some routes of varying lengths. I've just whizzed out for 8 miles off road, which takes about 40 minutes. Add in getting changed and a shower, I can probably do that in just over an hour, which was ideal between two skype meetings. Advantages to working from home.

I am serious with this question. Why should we take Velospeed as proof positive on anything?

You can ride as long and far as you like. As long as you abide by social distance, ride solo or with family only.

Weather will be better next week so will be going out for 2-3 hour rides

Obviously if you can carry enough food and water the whole day is at your disposal

Shouldn’t a 15 year old be doing school work during the day though, not cycling?
