how far?

My average commute is very short around 7-8 miles (round). In the better weather I sometimes lengthen it but I'm usually in to much of a rush to get home and get out on my better bike; at this time of year I usually want to take the most direct route.

Tonight it wasn't long enough. It's 6.5 miles on the way home and by adding on extra bits I get it up to 11. I was meant to run the 11 mile route today but ended up having to stay at work longer that I'd planned and ended up cycling a shorter route. I reckon I needed at least another hour to restore my equilibrium. Still feeling far too punchy!

Mines about 6-8 miles, depending if i take the short route through the woods or stick to the roads.
Cant wait untill I'm back up to the fitness level to do a good 20-30 miles again though, but with this weather it hardly fills me with the confidence to use the country lanes

18 miles each way - but I usually only do that two to three times a week and only when it's light and not too cold  (roll on the summer/warmer weather/longer days  )

The shortest most direct route is a round 7.7 miles there and back.. Dont even sweat during it! haha! Coming home, unless am doing food shopping, it can be, 10, 30, 40, or even 50 miles routes.. Just depends how I feel, weather and time i get outta work.. Tonight, its going to be 30 as just fitted a new rear wheel and bb and want to take it for a spin. But sod running home! Not that fit yet!

7.5 miles direct (main roads, flat)
10 miles on National Cycle Network equivalent (no thanks!)
10 miles if I want to add a couple of hills
17 miles for the scenic route (mainly country lanes)

I usually go for the direct, road route, especially in the cold/wet/dark. The hilly route makes a nice change. I save the scenic route for 'best'.
Oh, and the National Cycle Network route... that's for if I'm feeling masochistic and want to spend 50% longer on my commute so I can negotiate dogs in the park, schoolkids walking in the cycle lane, cars reversing out of drives, give way at every side-road, wait for crossings, get off and walk over the canal bridge, etc, etc...

40.5 mile round trip but only done it twice a week so far and not at all for last 2 weeks, as I can work from home and weather has dictated. I had elbow surgery end of Sep08 and, whilst ok for general use, it really wouldn't cope well with even the gentlest of offs.

My goal for next week is 3 times, the other 2 days I have a round trip of 7 miles for the station.

76km short route, occasionally take the scenic route which takes it up to 80-90ish. Took the car last 2 weeks tho due to ice, apart from weds when I rode in and went splat!
