Who be they then, summat dodgy? I know he did have some rather "unfashionable" views despite his other virtues.
British Interplanetary Society, still going today.

Taking on water, which it then has to pump out to reach shallower waters at its destination!

Ah, of course. Very clever of people like the Vikings to work out how to so that.
Doing it every time they passed another ship, too, must be a real pain.

It must get tricky when your boat is moving toward one boat and away from another at the same time. No wonder offshore sailing is so hard.

Some on this thread are just cynics with closed minds.
What is needed is cold hard science. I've conducted an experiment under VERY scientific conditions, and let's see the results.
I attempted to balance a small spherical object on top of a larger sphere. The result?
It rolled off.
Then, ingeniously, I scaled-up the experiment. I balanced a much larger spherical object (a footy) on top of another supposedly spherical object (The Earth) and left it overnight. The result?
It's not rolled anywhere.
People of cycle chat, conclusive SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN FACT, the earth is flat.

We admire you conclusive proof that the Earth is indeed flat as we all secretly knew all along.
We now need to organise the last great Exploration Expedition left to do,

To The Edge & Back !
