IMO not good for knees and limited benefit for fitness. Squats, one legged or otherwise should be done no further than when the leg angle reaches 90 degrees

This exercise, done alternately at a 60 cadence is called....

Cossack dancing.

It's one of the more difficult moves in the Cossack dance routine.

+1.

To do the Cossack dance, a PROPER limbering, warm-up and stretch routine should be done.

Yes, it can knacker the knees.

This....and I believe that while doing a squat you should sink your bum rather than lean forward...in other words don't let your knees go over your toes or it places extra strain on the knees.

My hamstrings are ridiculously short, so I can't get my leg out far enough infront of me to balance.

If I could I'm not sure I'd be able to do more than one or two though.

Short hamstrings gave me huge knee problems - stretch them! ;)
