How many makes of bikes have you owned?

I have been cycling on and off for over 70 years. In that time I've had numerous bikes but few different Brands.
Started with a Hercules aged around 9.
Then a succession of Raleigh models.
One Giant MTB.
One Cannondale MTB.
One Haibike electric bike.

I now have one Raleigh MTB fitted with a Tongshen motor and the Giant MTB much modified for touring.

I've had more Raleigh bikes than the rest put together. I'm sure this tally is very small compared to some.

What do your lists look like?

Raleigh, Triumph, BSA, Falcon, Diamondback, Marin, Alpinestars, FW Evans, Pinnacle, Felt, Ribble, Giant, Scott, Claude Butler, Carrera, Boardman,Dawes, Cervelo, Spesh, Cannondale.

So thats 20 brands, but there may be others that my failing memory has overlooked.

Six: Raleigh (Wayfarer), no-name (Trigger's Broom), Dawes (Shadow), Spa (Audax), Brompton (H6R), Genesis (Flyer).

I still have the last four.

In order of acquisition: Unknown, Raleigh, Tensor, Peugeot, Muddy Fox, Marin, Airnimal, Brompton, Specialized, hack built from SJS cycles winter training frame, another hack built from another SJS cycles winter training frame, Quintana Roo, Paul Milnes, Specialized, Surly, Elswick Hopper, Pashley, Peugeot (briefly), Moulton (briefly), Genesis.

Still have the ones in bold.

In order:

Raleigh Shopper folding bike. Horrid heavy old thing, and couldn't keep up with all my pals on their "racers",

Got nicked then got cheap secondhand 3 speed. Huge improvement over the Raleigh.

Then as a young adult got a 10 speed Falcon which though a cheapish bike was vastly better. decades later upgraded the gears to 15 speed.

Thorn Nomad - a semi-offroad tourer which I still have. My first genuinely good bike. A bit heavy but very solid.

Condor fixie, which I love and commuted on for a decade.

Brompton which I bought for working away, but role changed so never really used it, now sold on.

Brompton which I bought for working away, but role changed so never really used it, now sold on.

Sounds like my Brompton. It was amazingly useful for about a year and got a lot of use. Then things changed. Now I ride it maybe once a year just to keep it working.

I am one of those who has one bike at a time and just ride it for everything

But first bike was a Raleigh elite - very very slow - ended up pushing it up any hill more than 100 yards long
Peugeot with drops and 10 speed - very cool - only 10 speed bike of any of the kids I knew -
Then Rudge bi-frame "folding mountain bike" - basically a Raleifgh but not made in the country so couldn;t be a Raleigh

then a gap but did ride my ex's Carlton a lot for a while - nice bike 531 frame and proper bike after my daughter became old enought o ride and her Mum rode my Rudge

Then we split up and I got a PowaCycle ebike so I could ride and still get home if my Asthma kicked off

when that started getting worn out
Got a Raleigh Array ebike - great thing but design fault on battery charger connection and Raleigh were great about it
eventually Raleigh got fed up and just swapped the bike for
Raleigh Motus ebike -

and in the meantime my wife got a Carrera folding bike - which I have ridden a LOT more than her

so

then back to Raleigh
with a bit of Carrera

I tend to be fairly loyal.
Started with a Raleigh that my parents bought me way back in the past.
Falcon BMX, Peugeot MTB, Marin MTBs, Apollo road bike (Didn't know any better at the time) which was traded in for a 1991 Marin Palisades Trail ;-)
Cannondale, Carrera, Boardman, Felt, Specialized, Planet X, though Scott is my mainstay favourite brand these days, they seem to fit me really well.

Oh, I forgot about that one. My very first proper bike was a Rudge. Slightly too big at first and dad made blocks for the pedals.
